How To Do Laundry The Shauna-Way or If My Mother-In-Law Knew, She Would Never Have Given Her Blessing

METHOD #1

1. Carefully sort laundry according to like colors.

2. Realize that you have so much damn laundry that you can create seven loads: blacks, jeans, pinks & purples (mostly Elise’s clothes), other colors, whites, sheets, towels.

3. Spend all day doing laundry. As each load comes out of the dryer, throw it on top of the previous loads piled on the bed.

4. Spend an hour folding laundry after putting the kids to bed.

5. Curse yourself and swear you’ll throw a load in every day instead of let it pile up.

METHOD #2

1. Sort laundry according to like colors.

2. Place load #1 in washer.

3. When the washer is done, place load #1 in dryer.

4. After putting the kids to bed, leave load #1 in the dryer because you’re too tired to get it out and fold.

5. (Preferably done the following day.) Place load #2 in washer.

6. When the washer is done, realize that load #1 is still in the dryer. Probably very wrinkled. Place load #2 inside dryer with load #1 because then you can dry load #2 while taking the wrinkles out of load #1.

7. Leave loads #1 and #2 in the dryer because you’re too tired to fold two loads of laundry tonight.

8. (Preferably done the following day.) Place load #3 in washer.

9. When the washer is done, realize that loads #1 and #2 are still in the dryer. Probably very wrinkled. Place load #3 inside dryer with loads #1 and #2 because then you can dry load #3 while taking the wrinkles out of loads #1 and #2.

10. Take loads #1, #2, and #3 out of the dryer when it’s done.

11. Glare at husband when he comments, “Damn that’s a huge load. How long has it been since you did laundry anyway?

HAHAH! That's great! I'm always too tired to put them in the dryer, and then forget about them for a couple days. Then when I go to swith them, they're all musty and I have to rewash them.

But you know, I started having the kids fold their own clothes. They aren't done perfect and it's harder for me to go through them to pick out the ones that are too small or unseasonal, but it saves me a lot of headache. I let them dress themselves anyway. I figure one day, they'll want their clothes to look neat when they're on and they'll finally start using all the tips I gave them!

glad to know that laundry is done the same way in other houses. i currently have 2 basket fulls of clean clothes that I have to fold, i will simply pull from them for a few days. enjoying your blog...will add you to my blogroll

This is one thing that I try to always keep up with- if I don't it becomes a monster!

Admit it- the pink and purple clothes are really Gavins!

LOL!!!
I'm guilty of forgetting clothes in the washer and having to rewash...sometimes multiple times.
You crack me up!!

I can relate!

Today when Sweet Boy came inside soaked from playing with water squirters, I simply opened the dryer, reached in, and grabbed a whole outfit. Yes, the dry clothes had been sitting in the dryer for a good 24 hours.

Lazy or just prepared? Hmmmm ....

Hahahaha. Um, hi. Are you watching me? Because I do this EXACT SAME THING! Hilarious.

(And, since I'm living with my mother-in-law, she KNOWS this about me!!!!)

omg, have you ever done this method Shauna? Totally forget about load #7 in washing machine and finding it two days later and it smells BAD! Then, you have to re-wash the whole thing and swear it has a "funny" smell still? That's my little confession.

Very funny! I can't get away with this because we opnly have a clothes line, no drier available for hiding clothes in! However ironing stays in piles until we run out of clothes...

Love it! My husband and I are in a continuing battle over how to split the chores. The newest deal: I'll wash, you put away. Laundry and dishes.

I figure, if he doesn't do his part, I won't have to do mine.

So we end up doing your Method #2 aaaaalllll the time with the clothes.

I don't iron, either, by the way. I just throw it in the dryer with something damp if I can swing it. I so need that fancy new steamer dryer. Or is it a washer? I'm so far from having anything new, I don't even know.

Soooo, that's why Trish glares at me so much??

See what all I learn here? ;)

I usually end up following method #2. My laundry hamper is a black hole.

Janet a.k.a. "Wonder Mom" said...

I prefer method 2.

This could alternately be titled: How Karly does laundry!

I definitely favor method #2 ;)

Method two sounds perfectly normal to me! =)

The Becki-Way...Don't sort, throw it all in...who cares if something fades? Leave it until the next day to fold, after all, you have blogging to do! LOL!!!!!!!

I'm a double/triple washer myself. And I remember a load back a few months ago that I had to dry about half a dozen times. Because it was freakin' cold here and I wasn't going to fold ice cold laundry, no way!

You crack me up - thanks for the giggles!

So true! We have a chair in the living room that we now refer to as "the laundry chair." Some days we just take clean clothes off of it.

method #2 sounds like our house! LOL!!

I have a "thing" about laundry. I like to start and finish. Mon and Tues is kids clothes..washed, folded and put away. Love that sense of accomplishment even though my house is a sty.

Raising my hand for Method No. 2.

Actually, I wasn't aware there was ANOTHER method for doing laundry.

Heh.

At least your loads end up in the dryer, and not in the washer until they smell moldy. Nope that never happens over here.

And damn, girl, how big is your dryer? Then again, ours is like 25 years old, so *probably* things have improved a bit over the years, no?

I'm all about #2!

Bwahahah! Oh, Shauna...on method number two, what is the 12th thing? You know....what do you say to your husband's comment? That's what Iwant to know! Funny girl.

Laundry? What's that??

Oh, I'm very glad someone else does this. I've actually gotten somewhat better about laundry- when I was first married, I never did laundry unless there was about seven loads piled up (for the two of us!) and then I would constantly shrink things, leave things in the washer way too long, forget all the work shirts wrinkling away in the dryer, etc. I still do all that stuff often enough, but not on a consistent, every week basis, so that's progress, right?

Cate said...

You have no idea how relieved I am that someone else does laundry the same way as I do!

This is one of the reasons why I am excited about the second floor laundry room in our soon-to-be-built new house...our current laundry room is in the basement. I really don't enjoy carting laundry up and down two flights of stairs.

Not that my location of my new laundry room will make a HUGE difference...but it will make it just ever-so-slightly easier...and I can deal with that!

Jennifer Playgroupie said...

I'll probably be doing method 2 today!

Funny post, Shauna!

Actually, I keep up with laundry. I can do a load or two each day, and it stays consistent then. And laundry is one household thing I like to do. I love folding my sons little clothes.

But I have done Method #1 before. This was especially true when I was working before a baby. So I can see why this happens for you. #2 is funny...I've never tried that. My dryer isn't big enough or I probably would have. ;)

Lene said...

Argh I am the same way! I hate laundry. How do people keep up each week?

Tracy said...

Ha. I can totally relate. I don't mind the washing & drying parts, but I hate (HATE) folding the laundry and putting it away. Bleh!

Laundry sucks. It seems like everytime I think I'm making some headway some more creeps up for lord only knows where.

I think we should have dryers that give us suprises (like gold coins or something hell the thing eats socks why couldn't it provide suprise gold coins) when they are done, that way I may be more inclined to do it more frequently

mommiebear2 said...

That is pretty much what happens around our house as well, except hubby is ususally coming to me with "honey, I havent had any clean underwear in like a week!"

Jackie said...

hmm...this sounds familiar...

I HATE laundry! It took me one whole day to get through the enormous pile in my laundry room. I can totally relate to this post!

Just found your blog through TopMomma, love it!

I can NOT even open the door to my launry room.

Laundry breeds, I'm sure of it - because there's suddenly more of it, at various stages, everytime I look.

I am caught up in holiday washing and drying - but ironing is a different story.

I hate it!

Hummie said...

LOL...I've blogged and made scrapbooking layouts with this theme too (in the pas). It's good to know I'm not alone.

Har! The latter "method" sounds like something I would do. LOL!
